The show recounts the coming-of-age story of a little lion cub called Simba, who is fated by birthright to rule as the King of the Pride Lands following his father. The African territory however is still a dangerous place, as even in this pure and childlike plot, misfortune appears when the young lion's father Mufasa is killed because of the intent of his estranged uncle Scar, who wishes to take over as King of the Pride Lands. The young Simba is forced to flee from his home and goes into exile lasting a long period of time. During this exile, he encounters new friends, Timon and Pumbaa, who encourage him to forget his past and live life on his own terms. Simba's relaxed demeanor then takes a turn when Simba once again encounters his long-time friend Nala, who encourages him to return to the Pride Lands and requests him to overthrow his abusive uncle.
This incredibly powerful story of tragedy, strong bonds, and fearless leadership is amplified by the iconic and emotional music, created by Elton John and Tim Rice. Their original songs, coupled with added compositions and lyrics from other composers such as Zimmer, Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, and director Julie Taymor have served as the foundation of the show not just in local performances, but also in several tours all over the world.
