Due to quick thinking and a bit of luck, Valjean is able to make his next move and adopts a new identity as Monsieur Madeleine, in due time attaining the positions of a factory owner and a mayor. Though initially lucky in building his new life, hidden from his nemesis Javert, Jean Valjean is unfortunately pulled in the uprising of the commoners of Paris, France, wherein Valjean is compelled to make choices that would affect both himself and his adopted daughter, Cosette.
