With rampant corruption, unemployment, and abuse in the historic 19th century French Revolution, a convicted thief known by the name of Jean Valjean breaks his parole after a significant period of time on the chain gang. Because of the actions of a good samaritan, Jean Valjean is free to make his next move and adopts a brand new identity as Monsieur Madeleine, in due time rising to become a factory owner and a mayor. Though previously successful in evading the law and his nemesis Javert, he is unfortunately drawn in the ongoing bloody rebellion of Paris, wherein he is forced to make choices that would affect both himself and his adopted daughter, Cosette.
