This upcoming fall season, clear the path as Disney’s Aladdin descends upon the Procter & Gamble Hall from November 14th all the way through the 19th! The North American tour continues its trek across the United States, bringing the beloved Arabian tale to life right before everyone’s eyes. Remember to plan ahead, as the show’s running time will last for approximately two hours and thirty minutes with only a single intermission.
Disney’s initial launch of the animated masterpiece “Aladdin” emerged as a massive success in the early nineties, making its mark as the highest-grossing movie of the year. The iconic song “A Whole New World,” which won one of the film’s two Academy Awards for Best Original Song, was a standout feature and secured the Oscar for Best Original Score later on. Moreover, the song’s official recording featuring Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle instantly soared to the top of the Billboard charts as the film was released.
“MUSICAL COMEDY WISH FULFILLMENT!” – New York Magazine
“A medley of tunes from other Disney musicals and a succession of winking, twinkling chorus lines.” – USA Today
In a nutshell, the story revolves around Aladdin, a charismatic street rat in Agrabah, stumbling upon an ancient lamp in the mysterious Cave of Wonders. Little does he know, the lamp holds the unpredictable Genie, who grants him three wishes limited to a particular set of rules. Meanwhile, Princess Jasmine, radiantly beautiful but yearning for adventure, catches the eye of the pauper-turned-prince Aladdin, and everything is changed.
Nevertheless, this magic carpet ride encounters its share of turbulence as the lamp’s potential is not exactly a secret. The antagonist, Jafar, along with his henchmen, conspire to fulfill their own three wishes, setting the stage for a climactic battle that Aladdin must wage to thwart their wicked intentions and liberate the Kingdom from their nefarious schemes.

The Washington Post interviews composer Alan Menken regarding the challenges of adapting his music for a different medium, specifically in theatrical form. Although their job was to simply bring “Aladdin” from the animated movie to the stage, he mentions that it’s so much more than that. “There was some sort of treatment that was basically very true to what had been in the movie and didn’t include several songs that had been cut from the film. I was actually unusually adamant that I really wanted to find a way to bring in the songs that lyricist Howard Ashman and I had written,” he shares.
The Procter & Gamble Hall is reported to be the Aronoff Center’s largest theater, boasting a fully-equipped stage partnered with a gorgeous ceiling studded with 3,000 fiber optic lenses that altogether create a starlight effect. That being said, there really is no other place that can present this shining, shimmering, and splendid play for all ages! Purchase your tickets to Disney’s Aladdin: The Musical as early as now!
Broadway Review
Review for the Herald Tribune by Jay Handelman
“As staged by Casey Nicholaw, it is an explosion of familiar and new songs, energetic dance routines, imaginative costumes, and vibrant, fabric-heavy scenic designs that all work to tell the love story of the poor Aladdin and Princess Jasmine of Agrabah. Their romance, however, is threatened by the evil manipulations of Jafar, the Sultan’s chief aide who has dreams of rising to greater power.”
