Ever since the play's creation in the 1980s, Les Misérables, or Les Mis, has risen up from an only-local theater classic found in Paris to one of the most highly-awarded and fan favorite shows in the world. Over the last 40 years that the play has been ongoing, the show has been produced in 53 countries, in 22 different languages, and has been drawing in more and more theatergoers worldwide.
In January, the musical’s next season brings it to a new location in Cincinnati, where the celebrated musical will be held in Procter & Gamble Hall at Aronoff Center on Saturday 11th January 2025. Procter & Gamble Hall at Aronoff Center was purposefully created and constructed as the leading entertainment venue of Cincinnati, containing a well-crafted stage and seating setup that is sizeable enough to host a play of this scale, in addition to suitable services that are available within the venue.
The musical is all about the life of Jean Valjean, an ex-convict distressingly wanting to start anew after breaks free from the chain gang. Valjean's entire tale, and the relationships he builds along the way, are performed with everything lyricized from the opening number to the finish of the incredible show. The West End musical being sung from start to finish is a storytelling tactic that this musical has over other known theater productions, and is the primary reason why each individual song performance doesn’t miss a beat in unveling characters' motivations in every word or note sung.
It's quite unique and because of this method, the play is also filled with impressive song numbers. Interestingly, even with the myriad of songs that can be heard in Les Mis, each character in the stage adaptation is given their own spotlight, with each individual performance showing the vocal range of each actor. No one who has watched a showing of Les Mis can fail to recall Fantine’s “I Dreamed A Dream”, which brings with the ballad a heavy heart and has been used endlessly by acclaimed icons in contemporary TV. “Bring Him Home” also emotionally closes out the conflict in our beloved characters, unveiling the selfless heart of Valjean's character in just one absolutely stunning performance.
